In what has been hailed as a “landmark” move, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission ruled Monday that employers which discriminates against an employee or potential employee based on their gender identity is in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits discrimination based on sex.

This is HUGE.

If I am reading this correctly, this is inclusive of all employees who identify as transgender, and not just federal employees. Wonderful. Thank you Transgender Law Center.

Gay Hate Grim Reaper

(Video description: a street activism video of a person dressed in a Grim Reaper costume in various urban locations, featuring the surprised reactions of people all set to typical “creepy” piano music. During the latter part of the video we see the Grim Reaper handing out small business cards that say ‘you are the victim of a hate crime’, followed by a statistic related to hate crimes against gays and lesbians [hate crime statistics provided by the FBI]. At the end of the video is the tagline ‘hate is scary’.)

The word “transgender” is an adjective, and a descriptive word; not a noun or a verb. Just as you wouldn’t call an older person “an old” or say they are “olded”, it is inappropriate to refer to a transgender person as “a transgender” without adding “person”, “woman”, “man”, or any other appropriate noun. — How to Respect a Transgender Person (via theselfmademen)

Athens just smashed the national record for most self evident portraits shot in one day! 95 faces!! That beats even San Francisco!

woot woot! way to go Athens!

I’m super excited that I got to be involved in this project.

All of you should go get your portrait taken if they’re coming to your town.

The organizers are super friendly and personable and totally made me feel at peace the second I walked up to them. I was really nervous, and was only able to get away from work for a second to go take the picture and then I had to leave, so I went alone. My social anxiety made me psych myself out, but it was really no big deal.

I wish I could’ve hung out with them for a bit and talked about what its been like to see the gays of this country. That kind of shit is right up my alley. [:
